The rosemary

I thought that because the rosemary was so pungent it would be safe from the girls but I was wrong. They have all decided that they like scratching in it and are trashing it.

I was going to see if I could find something at the garden centre to protect it but my husband said he would make something from the left over weld mesh.

I have dug it into the ground and the heavy stone on top will keep it in place and make it safe for the girls to sit or stand on if they want to. The joins in the weld mesh are covered by duct tape. Hopefully now the rosemary will have a chance to grow.

BRILLIANT!!! I’ve come to the conclusion that if it’s in their run, they will destroy it. Even if they don’t really care for it. I think it’s the only green thing in there and that is just how they roll.

I know it is really difficult to keep anything green in their run but I am determined. Luckily the really big bush was well established as was the apple tree. The rose was outside but is now inside and is kind of like a standard with the flowers high up so that is safe. The tree like thing that self seeded in the garden before I moved it to the run is tall enough to be safe as is the shrub I recently moved and had planted it originally for it’s tall upright habit. The rosemary is the only thing small enough to be trashed but I had hoped it would be too tough and pungent. I have a huge one in the garden and think if it can grow to that sort of size it will be safe and provide shade and shelter.

I guess I am lucky (or should I say they are lucky) to have five green things in
their run that have survived so far. Their run was full of green things to begin with and even things like mint and sage succumbed to them in the end. They are really good destroyers but you’ve got to love them though!

I think it is so funny.

It is not funny! Or perhaps it is! I can’t count, in my last reply I said they have five green things, with the rosemary they have six green things. That’s pretty good going for a chicken run with six destroyers in it.

Well at least you share it about that is one each .
