I have read that people give an occasional banana to their girls especially while moulting. I have tried mine with banana in the past and they wouldn’t eat it. They tested it with a few pecks and at the end of the day I removed it. I had a spare banana so decided to try mashing it into their pellet mash.
They loved it and ate every bit of it. I divided it into two dishes and there was much dancing around from dish to dish.
I think I could get away with putting anything in their mash yet it’s only the same old pellets they have every day mashed with water. It must be the texture that they like so much. It wasn’t long before both dishes were empty.
Chickens that DON’T like banana? It’s hard for me to imagine. But I know it’s true. There are plenty of things my girls won’t eat that others hoover up.
But Coco can recognize a banana and it’s the one thing that she’ll jump at you to get. It’s her most favorite thing in the whole wide world. I swear I can see her beak curl up into a smile when she sees I have banana in my hand.
It’s funny but I actually thought of you when I wrote this post because I remembered Coco loving bananas but I tried several times and they got ignored every time.
Then I read someone mashed them and that seemed to make the difference.
Mine love scrambled egg, it is their most favourite thing of all but one of my friends say their chickens are not interested at all! They all like so many of the same things and yet still have their very own things!
It’s what makes our girls so individual and fascinating. It is so good to have your comment. I miss you when I don’t hear from you and am always so pleased to have some feedback from you.
I always look out for your posts and await some new news of how your girls are doing. I hope all is well with your flock x
Yes, I’m long over due for a posting. It’s been a rough fall here. Ginger was off her game and when I took her into the vet, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. And my mother too has ovarian cancer and so that really knocked me for a loop.
Lulu and Sprinkles sensed Ginger’s weakness and went after her hard. So they were rehomed. Then we just had the four.
And last Friday, I had the vet put Ginger down. She could no longer stand up properly and it was clearly the end for her. And I just hate to write about such sad things. But spring will bring new chicks and I will get back to blogging.
I am so sorry to hear you are having such a bad time. So sorry to push this on here. Please e-mail me any time for a catch up or just to get things off your chest. I will always be there for you and listen to anything you want to share. I am sending you hugs and am always here for you, any time, I miss you when I don’t hear from you and am so sad for your bad luck x
