Dotty’s second egg

Unlike the other girl’s Dotty laid her second egg the day after her first. There was a lot of egg laying noise going on and I went to take a look at Dotty on the nest but Bluebell was determined to get in on the act too.

I thought that Bluebell wanted to lay as well but then I saw what was causing her interest. Bluebell had already laid and her egg was laying beside Dotty. I took the egg away and calm settled.

Bluebell finally left Dotty to get on with it and when I went back a little later, there was Dotty’s second egg. It wasn’t quite as long as yesterdays but still paler than Pepper’s with little white specks on it. I think I will probably continue to be able to tell Pepper’s and Dotty’s eggs apart. Well done Dotty! Dotty started her egg laying, by laying two days in a row, maybe she is trying to make up for lost time. It will be interesting to see she lays another one tomorrow.

I so wish I knew what was going through their little heads. I cleaned out my coop and run yesterday and mean from top to bottom, even scrubbed the outside of the coop and hosed everything down. I replaced all the shavings in the nest boxes and I really rocked Sprinkles world. She was not happy.

And I realized later, that I didn’t put the right fake eggs back in the right nests. That could have been it too because she laid in a different nest than she normally does. Poor thing.

They really don’t like change do they!

You remember how long it took my girls to get used to the umbrella, well now when ever we have been working on the roof, rat proofing, water proofing etc, we put the umbrella down to get to the roof. While it’s down they won’t go into the garden area. I realise and put it back up, but one time forgot. I went back later and they were all confined to the patio with all the poop on the patio area. I realised the umbrella wasn’t up, put it up and they all promptly went out into the garden.

The idea of the umbrella was that in summer, I would put it up on wet days and down on dry days. It’s probably not going to work is it? We may be stuck with the umbrella up permanently! Who knows what goes on in their little chicken brains?
