Since the weekend we have been hardening off our broad beans and runner beans. We are putting them outside on the patio table, by the back door, during the day and bringing them back inside at night.
The runner beans and dwarf beans have really started to grow and are catching up with the broad beans.
We plan on meeting up with the rest of the group at the allotment on Sunday and planting the potatoes as they are now ready to go in.
We will wait a bit longer before putting the beans in. We need to be fairly certain that there aren’t likely to be more frosts before they go in. We have had a bit of frost the last few mornings.
We also need to get the net around the plot to protect anything we are planting. The raised beds have been filled with soil and are ready to go and putting the net up is the last job to be done other than planting.
I will probably report back again after the weekend.
I think I have those potatoes on the right. Mine will be going in this weekend too. I haven’t planted my runners yet.
The ones on the right are pink fir apple and are great for salads or if just boiled are like new potatoes. They are firm and waxy. The others are maris peer which are a good all rounder and great for roasting and chips.
Yep – Pink Fir Apple – couldn’t for the life of me remember last night! My others are Jazzy.
I hadn’t heard of jazzy so I just googled them. I used to struggle to remember the name of pink fir apple but now we have been growing them for several years I have got used to the name.
How fun. I got my veggies planted a week or so back. It’s warm enough to get them out but not quite warm enough to really make them pop. But it shouldn’t be too long now. Keep posting what you grow. I love watching others gardens take shape.
We still have frost in the morning here. There was a light frost this morning and yesterday afternoon a short hail shower. The same is forecast today. I will do a progress report as we go along.
Doing well, but do think it is too early for runner beans.
I agree, too early for the beans.
