We have felt today that Marmite is getting ready to lay. She has been very vocal all day and has been checking out the nest boxes.
I gave the girls some yogurt as a treat and Marmite was quick to the yogurt in between standing on the nest boxes and looking in them.
Look at the state of poor Flame in the background.
It’s interesting seeing the same coloured, different sized, girls together for comparison.
It was quite funny seeing Marmite checking out the nest boxes with her yogurt beak. I think she might lay tomorrow.
It is really sad to see poor Flame looking so sad.
Marmite looks so good,Roll on the day Flame looks as good .
It is sad. It tugs at my heart to see her and she is nervous of me getting anywhere near her while she is like this (usually trying to get some photos which she doesn’t like). This is the worse moult I can remember any of my girls having. I am willing her new feathers through. Marmite does look good. In the opposite way, getting ready to lay or starting to lay gives them a new confidence. Marmite was first to the yogurt instead of last and stood her ground next to Smoke and Ebony, whereas usually just a look from them sends her running away.
Marmite is beautiful just like my black serama (not so much at the moment due to moulting though!) xx
She is beautiful. I love having some black and blue in my flock as most girls are variations on buff. All beautiful in their own way but lovely to have some different colours.
Aw, miss Vi, my blue serama! 🙁 xx
I totally get that. I feel a bit bad now mentioning blue and black. It’s awful when we lose any of our girls and when they are that special colour it makes it even worse. They are all so special and losing any of them is such a blow. xx
Oh no Carol, it’s lovely to see Smoke – don’t worry about that at all xx
Thank you. xx
She is indeed looking really good – fantastic time of year for them to start to .
I really didn’t expect them to start during the winter. I am surprised.
