I love seeing our flock all together. When I started my chicken keeping journey I thought that I would be happy with just three girls. Over the years it changed into extending the run and extending the flock.
I now love having a flock of twelve and can’t imagine having just a few girls. I especially love those moments when they all come together.
Last night I thought that I would try to capture this when giving out the bedtime corn. As I go up to the run I always talk to the girls and the entire flock run to the bottom end of the run to greet me. As I walk past the side of the run the girls follow me up.
I go through the gate and the girls crowd around my feet on the patio area. I have to be very careful where I place my feet as I try to move through the girls to the cabinet for the corn.
I usually scatter the corn out into the run so that all the girls can get a share but last night I sprinkled a little on the patio area and quickly snapped a few photos.
It’s difficult to get all the girls in shot and Ebony is only just in the foreground.
What a colourful little crowd the flock is. I scattered their corn into the run and they quickly hoovered it up. They then spend some time scratching to make sure that they haven’t missed a bit. I love to see them like this.
It is lovely to see them all together! 🙂
You seem to have a HUGE run! xx
I love seeing them all together. Yes, our run is huge. That’s why I felt able to have a larger flock.
They are a lovely bunch. I got pullets for my birthday so have gone from 3 at the beginning of summer, to 4 after the first lot of chicks, 7 after the second lot and now 12 after my birthday chickens! The two young cockerels will be going soon so I’ll be at 10 – nice round number. They’re not integrated yet though so I’ve got the original girls and both lots of chicks in one run, and the new gang in another. Some of the new gang are Dutch bantams who are tiny so I don’t want to mix them too soon.
It sounds like you are back to a nice number again. I love Dutch bantams. I wanted some a few years ago but couldn’t find any in my area. I have got more little girls than bigger girls but I have found when integrating that the bigger girls are never a problem. It is always the little girls that do the chasing. It will be lovely when you have them all together.
They are such a colourful flock.
They are. That’s one of the things I love about seramas, they come in all colours.
I can’t believe you have 12 now. I’m so jealous. I have my 7 and I adore them dearly. But I’d love 20. Shhhh, don’t tell my hubby. I might just do it one day.
We have had twelve since August and I love having a larger flock. They are all lovely and it is fun having them. I have to remember to put larger amounts of treats out and everything goes very quickly. I love how well they get on though.
