Yesterday was the first dry day in ages. At bedtime when I checked on the girls this is what I found.
I blocked this perch from the other side because they usually access it from the table. Instead they must have jumped straight up from the ground. This would have been a tricky manoeuvre and shows how determined they are.
I removed the blocker as I don’t want them risking themselves with a tricky manoeuvre. The forecast is back to rain again for the coming week so that will stop them for a while.
At the moment they are going in seven o’clock which is when we have our evening meal. As the days get longer they will go in later and it will be easier for me to keep going out and moving them from this spot.
This habit is going to be difficult to break!
Oh dear – once they make up their chicken minds it seems to be very hard to break! :-0 xx
You are so right. Chicken minds are very determined minds! xx
They are saying it is going to get very warm at the weekend, hope they are right.
Prehaps the girls will settle down again, when the weather changes.
We have warm weather forecast next weekend too. I don’t know what triggered the girls wanting to roost outside. I will keep trying to persuade them back in. Looking forward to better weather though.
Our two started sleeping outside randomly since winter. I had to do the same and block their outside perch. I don’t really mind them sleeping outside as I am happy the run is secure but selfishly it’s easier to clean up nighttime poo when it’s all in a pile in their coop. Hope you manage to break it.
I am glad that I am not the only one. Our run is secure but if it rains in the night it would drip on the perches and I just feel happier with them roosting inside. Last night I went out and they were perched above the hatch and I only had to tell them to go in and they did. I would prefer it if they would go in without me telling them. I will keep trying to break this habit.
