Since the weather has changed the bedtime routine has changed and not for the better! Emerald and Speckles have taken to perching over the hatch at bedtime. Emerald settles there first and then Speckles joins her.
The little girls gather around the pop hole to go in or if I go up later they will have perched inside but Emerald and Speckles show no sign of going in. They always used to go in first and were followed by the little girls. I really think that if I didn’t move them they would stay out for the night. I am not happy about that!
I move them from the perch to the table and then shepherd them towards the chicken shed. Emerald goes in first followed by Speckles. It is a pain having to do this every night and I worry that if we were ever away overnight they wouldn’t go in. I can’t understand why they have suddenly started doing this.
They trot off like naughty children looking a bit sheepish. I am sure they know that I don’t want them to do this. I just hope that I can break this habit. I think I will try moving them a bit earlier and see if I can get them back to going in first.
Funny how our pets start these little habits, Sam has a habit now, that when I get into bed, he goes and lay in the kitchen, then 5 minuets later comes back to his bed.
Goodness knows why.
How odd. It’s funny when they start a habit that we can’t understand why.
Speckles comb,is really lovely.
Her comb is amazing and yet she has stopped laying since the cold spell started. Because her comb looks so good I am happy that she is fine and put it down to the fact that we don’t usually have such bad weather so late in the year. I hope she will start laying again soon.
This happened with my girls a few weeks ago when we went back to Daylight Savings Time. They love the extra light. It took about 10 days for them to get in before the pop door closed. They actually adjusted better than I did!! Your girls look so healthy! Hard work pays off!!
That’s interesting as I wondered if lighter days were having an effect but our clocks go forward this weekend. I hope that the girls will adjust in time.
Oh I hope you get them out of this habit Carol – I still have to put all mine to bed every night – I think they are brainless!!! :-0 xx
Oh dear! I am hoping that once the clocks have gone forward I can work on breaking the habit. I am giving the bedtime corn later in the hope that they will go in soon after that. Tonight it is raining and their spot over the hatch is wet and dripping so that will stop them going there for tonight.
