When I checked on the girls at bedtime the night before last I was surprised to find them all snuggled up together apart from Freckles. Last night they were in the same positions again. I think this may be the new routine going into colder nights.
I think as long as Emerald gets her favourite corner spot she isn’t bothered what the rest of them do and Speckles is happy to have any of the little girls beside her. It is rather sweet to see them all so close together.
My husband said that Dandelion doesn’t look like a chicken and I said that she looks like a pompom with a tail. They are a cute bunch!
They do look cute, They must feel warmer all snuggled together, because
it has turned much colder, these last few nights.
I think it must be because it’s got colder that they are all snuggling up. Even Freckles who would normally be in the middle of her perch was right up against the door so it’s like she is in a corner. I think she will be warm enough like that because even together one of the girls has to be on the outside so she is probably okay in her position.
Do they ever peck each other when they’re getting settled on the perches?
Yes they do. It’s mostly if any of the little girls try to get near Emerald. She won’t tolerate them at all and always pecks them. Cinnamon has also tried to get on Freckles perch and gets firmly pecked away. Sometimes the little girls peck each other when they are trying to get next to Speckles but don’t do it when they perch up the other end together. I have never seen Emerald peck Speckles though, not ever. They seem to be firm companions.
It’s very interesting
