Emerald and Speckles are both heavily moulting. Poor Emerald is a mass of pins and missing feathers. Speckles has an almost all white head.
Look at Cinnamon’s feet in comparison to Speckles feet. We call them her “digger feet”. We think it’s all the digging she does that has given her such big feet for her tiny size. What a funny little girl she is.
My goodness – really big feet for such a small body. Are your other seramas similarly proportioned?
The others don’t have such big feet as Cinnamon but she is always digging. She digs the deepest dust holes and is always digging in between from first thing in the morning until last thing in the evening. We think she has built up muscle in her feet and I think that is why she is comfortable roosting on the thicker perch at the back of the shed. I will try to get a photo of her feet next to the other little girls feet for a comparison.
Emerald and Speckles do look sad at the moment, But will soon be back to their
lovely selves. Cinnamon looks quite sweet, with her big feet.
They do look sad at the moment but they will soon be beautiful again. Cinnamon is very sweet. I will do a post about feet soon, I have been collecting photos but it’s not so easy to photograph feet. It’s not just that Cinnamon does a lot of digging, it’s the fact that she does it with such speed and fury. Her feet are the most exercised of the entire flock.
Feet are funny. And while I love my feathered footed beauties, one has bumble foot and keeping that foot wrapped and clean is a challenge.
I think myself very lucky that I haven’t had bumble foot so far and hope that continues because I know what a challenge it is by reading about it. I feel for you and wish you well with it.
