Mornings

Every morning when I poop pick the chicken shed the three little girls keep me company. They spend the time that I am in there scratching and pecking at the shavings. I have to be very careful where I put my feet and if they scratch shavings on to my boots they peck at my boots.

As soon as I have finished and leave the shed they follow me out and go about their day.

You can see my pot and disposable glove in the background, I had just finished picking up when I stopped to take a few photos.

There was some mash left from the day before so I put it in the store cabinet overnight and put it back on the patio when I had finished picking up in the shed.

I was surprised to see Peaches and the two little girls sharing the mash. They usually have to wait their turn when the bigger girls have moved away and this is the first time I have seen both sized girls at the same dish. Progress! The flock do seem more united these days which good to see.

it is really good to see, before long I think they will all be together, How nice that they chose to be near you, when you are in there.

    • I am really pleased with how together the flock are in their own little ways. It is lovely how the little girls seek me out. It is particularly Rusty and Freckles, they follow my every move when I go in and poop pick the run. They follow me all around the run and when we end up on the patio I pick up a spinach leaf and Rusty especially will run to peck it from hand. She loves me to hand feed her anything at all. When taking the photos in the chicken shed I put my hand near her to try to get a photo with my hand in it but she lightly pecked at my finger to see if I was giving her something. She is a funny little thing and is just so friendly.

    They look really busy!

    • They are really busy every morning. It is quite amusing to watch them scratching like mad in the shavings when there is nothing in the shavings for them. I never understand what they are pecking at. When I have finished cleaning the shed I always scoop up the pile of shavings that they have scratched out and throw them back in again.
