The girls love to sit in the sun. Toffee especially loves to find a patch of sun and will stretch her wings out to soak up the rays but I just missed the shot of her on her side with one leg and one wing stretched out.
Emerald isn’t in this photo because she prefers to sit in the shade or perch in the shade. She is having such a heavy moult that she is staying out of the sun.
Butterscotch is also moulting like crazy. I am not sure if she will start laying again because she is dropping so many feathers but I have thought that in the past and she did start laying again. I am picking up loads of feathers from the shed and the run.
The good news is that she has loads of pin feathers once more. It is now looking like she may get fully feathered again after all.
Butterscotch has now been moulting on and off for a year. I wonder if she is ever going to be done with this. Whereas it is really taking it out of poor Emerald, Butterscotch just seems to take it all in her stride.
All the girls look so happy, but poor Emerald looks so sad, hope she soon gets over her moult.I think the animals feel as we do , happy when the sun shine, As long as it is not
boiling hot.Sam just love laying in the sunshine.
I think like us, most animals like a bit sun and like us not if it’s too extreme. I do feel sorry for poor Emerald but her pins are coming in quickly so hopefully she will soon be over it and beautiful again.
It’s funny how some of them have a slow moult and some have a fast moult. Some people call it the “ugly moult” or worse still “oven ready”. At least she isn’t that bad.
I used a moulting tonic added to the water when my girls were growing feathers. Did really seem to help. And extra sunflower seeds or fish may help. I’m sure you already know that though ?
You are right, I am giving sunflower seeds or fish to give a bit of extra protein. At least the pins are coming through quickly. Can’t wait to have Emerald back to her former glory.
I love it when they topple over in the sun like that. I almost caught a photo of one of my babies doing that. But they hoped up when I came close with my camera and the photo was blurry. Oh well.
They do look so funny. That’s twice now that I have just missed Toffee as by the time I gabbed my camera she had moved. She topples over on her side and stretches out one wing and one leg. In this photo she had just pulled her wing and leg back in. She loves the sun.
