I love the coasters that Yu Lee made me for Christmas. I think they are far too good to use as coasters and wondered if we could somehow frame them. The fact that there is an odd number would make it difficult.
We were talking about this while Jackie was looking at them on a recent visit and between us came up with the idea of putting them in a straight line.
My husband had the idea of gluing them to a strip of wood as they don’t actually need a frame. He had a bit of wood in the shed left over from the new chicken nest boxes that was exactly the right width.
He used a strong glue and we left them on the windowsill overnight to set.
He also had a mirror plate that he could attach to the back to hang it up. As Steve and Yu Lee know we have a huge number of paintings all over the house and so don’t have much spare wall space.
Another advantage of having these in a strip is that we have a strip of wall by our front door where they will fit perfectly.
The coasters are now displayed on the wall by the front door. It would have been a shame to have them in a drawer and I am really pleased with the result.
Isn’t that the spot where you used to have a police truncheon hung up? What are you going to do when the double glazing salesmen come knocking now?
I’m glad you like them – and I knew you’d never use them as coasters!
You are right, it is the spot where the truncheon hung. It was the only spot we could find though so the truncheon had to move.
Much too special for coasters. We did have to take the pads off the back though which you would have paid for but I think it’s better to have it as a work of art.
The pads are cheap! Don’t worry about that.
Perfect place. A very skilled selection of art. I would be very proud if I had made them .
I am very pleased with them and they fit in that space perfectly.
Mounting the coasters in a straight line was a great idea! I particularly like how the wooden backing is left-over chicken nest box wood. It ties it all in very nicely.
When we hit on the straight line idea we were really pleased with it. Also as you say we already had the wood and it was the exact correct width which was a result. Sometimes things just seem meant to be.
