This evening when I went in to give the bedtime treats, Speckles had lost her last tail feather.
I included this photo because she looks so funny face on and it’s a shot that I don’t get too often.
I included this photo because this is the view I most often get on photos of Speckles. I have to say she does look cute with no tail.
She looks cute with no tail! I think some breeds just prefer to molt early, while some do it more in the fall. Or if you’re my cockerel Richard, you molt all year. ?
I think she looks cute too. It’s surprising how their moulting time differs but it’s a good thing really rather than having them all do it at once.
Funny that your cockerel drops feathers all year round, funny too that he has the same name as my husband!
Haha, we named him because the man we got him from reminded us of my late uncle, Richard.
Except our rooster has the brain of a grain of rice, unlike his namesakes! ?
Awe, poor thing. She’ll be so pretty before no time. And will have a tail. I’m amazed at how quickly those come back in.
I am always amazed at how quickly their tail feathers grow back.
I have 3 moulting now . Bluebell for the first time . Clover has lost her tail and looks really sad .
It’s definitely that time of year. I expect I will have more moulting soon and then the egg supply will dwindle away.
I’ve no dubt she’ll look resplendent in a couple of months! It hasn;t reached its zenith here, but I’m picking up lots of feathers – I’ll have the garden vac in action before much longer!
They do create a lot of feathers! I checked on Ancona after the moult and they have more spots and slightly bigger spots apparently. We shall see.
