Yesterday we completed planting the veg plot. The forecast for the over night temperature is a bit higher than it has been lately so we feel reasonably confident that we are past any frosts.
The broad beans and leeks were already in and the seed potatoes are now showing. Yesterday we planted runner beans, tomatoes and courgettes. It doesn’t look very impressive yet but I thought I would take some photos now and then some later to compare how well it does.
The runner beans are on the right and you can just see the potatoes showing through. The tomatoes are on the left then the courgettes behind them and the broad beans further down. The leeks are alongside the path but are so fine that they don’t show up yet.
This year we decided to limit ourselves to just the crops that always do best in the hope that we will have more success. Now we just to have to watch them grow.
You have worked hard .
The garden looks so different .
I wish it would warm up a big quicker in the early mornings which will give plants a great start .
At least the recent rain has watered the veg plot to give it a start. As you say a bit more warmth would get everything moving. I am looking forward to summer days and produce from the veg plot.
Yea, I always feel so accomplished once the veggies are planted.
My garden is a bit slow to take off this year. I probably need to get out there and fertilize. I’m just always so busy. And Peaches hurt her foot. Not sure how, but she had the beginnings of bumble foot. So I’ve been treating and wrapping that. She doesn’t like it. But after three solid days of treatment, it’s nearly resolved. I have it wrapped today just to be sure. I’ll remove the wrap tonight and clean it before bed and hopefully, that’s the last of that.
Oh, poor Peaches. Hope as you say it’s all sorted now. I hardly dare say this (touch wood) but I haven’t had to deal with that so far. I have read a lot on forums of chicken keepers dealing with it. It’s good that you caught it early.
We have a product called Vet RX and it really is amazing. I spray it (I like the gel version) on a small pad and put it on the foot and then wrap up the foot and leg so she can’t nibble it off. A few days of treatment and she’s all better. Whew. Really don’t want to have the vet do surgery on her and keep her in the house.
That sounds like an amazing product. It’s great not to need a vet and Having the girls in the house is not ideal! I will keep this information just in case it’s ever needed.
